In 2012, Colorado was the 9th leading producer of oil in the U.S. Over 90% of new oil and gas wells in Colorado utilize hydraulic fracturing. The first oil discovery in the state was an oil spring in Florence, Colorado. Come and learn about the fascinating history of this industry as well as the booms and busts of oil from historian and storyteller Ed Weising. Learn how Golden’s Colorado School of Mines played a leading role in the development of this industry.
